Subject content:

The concept of social networks: basic emphases. The interactive dimensions of networks: relations diversities, contents of transactions, a/symmetry, frequency, permanency un/predictability. The structural dimensions of networks: size, density, degree of connection, centrality/peripheralness, clustering. Typical networking actors (dependences, mediations, leadership, careers, coalitions, cliques, factions). 1st and 2nd degree resources, activation, accessibility. Old and modern theoretical views of networks. Models: support as protection model; perceived and realised support model; the model of social support as an interaction process; social integration model. Social networks measurement. The case of Slovenia. The role of relatives and friends. Networks of different types of families. Networks and the elderly. Networks of people with mobility problems. Networks and poverty. Networks as a source of social capital. The meaning of networks for social work.
