The division of scientific disciplines: religiology, the sociology of religion, social anthropology, theology, social work. The basic theoretical approaches to the study of religions (Marxism, functionalism, symbolic interactionism, Weber's approach, phenomenology, psychologist approaches). Different theoretical definitions and forms of transcendence, belief and religion. Types of religious communities. Connections between religious belief, religion and other phenomena (social stratification, ethnicity, morality, solidarity and social capital, politics, social policy, wars, power, fundamentalism). Religious secularisation and revitalisation of faith. Popular religiosity. New Age religiosity. »Superstition«. Empirical data about faith and religiosity in Slovenia and in Europe. Social function of the Catholic karitas. Relationship with social work.
