TEACHER AND STAFF MOBILITY
This action enables staff to spend a teaching period between 1 day – or at least 5 teaching hours – and 6 weeks at a higher education institution in another participating country. A minimum duration of one week (5 working days) is strongly recommended.
The partner higher education institutions/enterprise must have agreed in advance on the programme of the activities to be delivered by the visiting teachers (teaching programme). When the person carrying out the assignment is from a higher education institution, the assignment must be based on an inter-institutional agreement between the home and host institution.
Teaching staff of higher education institutions are selected by the sending institution, staff of enterprises by the host institution.
In the case of staff mobility from an enterprise to a higher education institution, the mobility is arranged by an invitation of the higher education institution to the staff member of the enterprise. The grant is always managed by the higher education institution.
Staff members with special needs may apply for a specific grant after they had been selected for a mobility period.
What are the objectives?
- To encourage higher education institutions to broaden and enrich the range and content of courses they offer;
- To allow students who do not have the possibility to participate in a mobility scheme, to benefit from the knowledge and expertise of academic staff from higher education institutions and from invited staff of enterprises in other European countries;
- To promote exchange of expertise and experience on pedagogical methods;
- To create links between higher education institutions and with enterprises;
- To motivate students and staff to become mobile and to assist them in preparing a mobility period.
Who can benefit?
The teaching assignments may be carried out by teaching staff of higher education institutions and by invited staff of enterprises.
For how long can teaching staff go abroad?
- Staff can teach abroad between 1 day and 6 weeks. The minimum requirement for a teaching assignment is 5 teaching hours. Multiple mobility periods are possible.
- A minimum duration of 5 working days is strongly recommended to provide a meaningful contribution to the teaching programme and international life at the host institution.
What arrangements have to be made?
- The teaching programme by the visiting teacher must be agreed in advance by all parties.
- In the case of staff mobility from an enterprise to a higher education institution, the mobility period is arranged by an invitation of the higher education institution to the staff member of the enterprise.
- In any case, the activities of staff undertaking a teaching assignment should be integrated into the curricula of the host institution.
How is the grant managed?
The grant provided to contribute to subsistence costs and to cover travel costs is always managed by the higher education institution.
Who can apply?
The institution sending teaching staff or inviting enterprise staff to teach applies for ERASMUS mobility grants to its national agency while the staff applies to their home institution, or the inviting institution in case of enterprise staff.
For higher education institutions
- Teaching assignment mobility is based on "inter-institutional agreements" between the home and the host higher education institutions holding each an ERASMUS University Charter or an agreement between the higher education institution and the enterprise concerned.
- At least the sending or the receiving country must be an EU Member State.
For staff
- The teaching staff must be either a national of a country participating in the Lifelong Learning Programme or a national of other countries employed in a participating country, under the conditions fixed by each of the participating countries, taking into account the nature of the programme.
- Teaching staff employed by a higher education institution must be from an institution from a higher education institution holding an ERASMUS University Charter.
- The teaching assignment must be carried out in a higher education institution holding an ERASMUS University Charter.
- Teaching staff of higher education institutions is selected by the sending institution.
- Staff of enterprises is selected by the host institution.
- At least the sending or the receiving country must be an EU Member State.
How to apply?
- The interested teaching staff should contact the international office and / or ERASMUS office of the home institution or the host institution in case of enterprise staff or the National Agency.
- The teaching staff shall submit to their home institution or enterprise a teaching programme agreed by the host institution. The programme must consist of at least:
- objectives and added value of the mobility;
- content of the teaching programme;
- expected results.
