Origins of the discourse of psychopathology. Psychiatric prehistory (untill 1700s), history and epistemology. Kräpelin, Krafft-Ebing, Bleuler, Ellis, Freud. Notions of mental disfunction, illness, disorder. Contradictory aspects of mental health. Introduction to psychiatric nosology: organic disorders, psychosomatic disorders, psychoses, neuroses, paraphilias and the sexual function, personality disorder. Construction of the DSM and the diagnostic procedure. Therapeutic techniques and credences: manipulation, psychosurgery, convulsive therapies, pharmacotherapy, behavioural therapy, psychotherapy.
