Historical and epistemological dimensions of (the notion of) deviance. Deviation as opposed to average, norm and order. Legal, moral and areas and definitions of deviance. Opposition normal/deviant and social reproduction. Perspectives of naturalism, functionalism, interactionism and structuralism. Deviances as defined by sanctions. Deviant practices and deviant subjects. Phenomenology of deviance. Stigma. “Social pathology”. Modern deviance and the national state. Corrective practices. Deviance and social antagonisms. Dynamics of exclusion and making of inclusion. The contents are elaborated through examples, selected by students, and discussion about them.
