Subject content:
- The division of scientific disciplines: religiology, the sociology of religion, social anthropology, theology, social work.
- The basic theoretical approaches to the study of religions (Marxism, functionalism, symbolic interactionism, Weber's approach, phenomenology, psychologist approaches).
- Different theoretical definitions and forms of transcendence, belief and religion. Types of religious communities.
- Connections between religious belief, religion and other phenomena (social stratification, ethnicity, morality, solidarity and social capital, politics, social policy, wars, power, fundamentalism).
- Religious secularisation and revitalisation of faith.
- Popular religiosity.
- New Age religiosity.
- »Superstition«.
- Empirical data about faith and religiosity in Slovenia and in Europe.
- Social function of the Catholic karitas.
- Relationship with social work.
