- Conceptions of 'extreme circumstances', their causes and consequences.
- Role of social work in extreme circumstances and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Foreign and domestic experiences of natural (eartquakes, floods, fires) and human-made (wars, industrial pollution, developmental projects, pandemics) disasters.
- Methods of social work in extreme circumstances (assesment of needs, identification of vulnerabilities, participation in the planning of measures, assurance of emergent aid for the neediest, encouragment of self-organisation).
- Long-term significance of extreme circumstances for the community and the individual.
- Strenghtening community resilience – risk reduction, recovery planing, promoting resilience and readiness to disasters.
- Experiences of solidarity.
- Spontaneous notions of appropriate and fair assistance.
- Post-traumatic stress disorder.
- Psychosocial methods of work with traumatised people in disasters.
